Nadezhda Kuzmina, Seregey Papshev, Alexander Philippov, Saratov State University Abstracts: Several thousands of architectural and historical memorials are revealed in Saratov Region and registered by the government with the help of Saratov Regional Branch of All-Russian Historical and Cultural Memorials Preservation Society; among them XIX century estates in Saratov and Volsk, architectural memorials in Balakovo, Volsk, Pugachev, Engels and Kchvalinsk. Out of numerous of architectural German-culture memorials located in Marx, Engels, Rovnoe, Krasnoarmeisk and other towns and villages of the Volga River Region near Saratov, nowadays only about four hundred of German-culture memorials are registered.
Povolzkii Regional Center of New Information Technologies of Saratov State University has developed a project called “Time Stream”. The purpose of the project is to preserve and spread around historical and cultural heritage of the region, to develop the public dialog and to raise the level of cultural and educational level of the population with the help of new information forms of presenting historical and cultural materials based on the examples of Saratov region, as well as Internet resources of Privolzskii Federal Region.
Multimedia disk and site called “Time Stream” are going to be created while working on this project. They are dedicated to the problem of preservation of historical and architectural heritage of Saratov region. Work on the project also includes the distribution of CD-ROM “Saratov yesterday and today”, which is presented at this exhibition and is the first and accomplished stage of the project. More than two hundred photographs with Saratov sights from the end of XIX —beginning of XX centuries and the corresponding amount of photographs of the present city, photographed from the same point and the same foreshortening, were used on this CD-ROM. Multimedia technologies, used in this project, provide an opportunity to visually represent the dynamics of city changes in the time period of one and a half centuries. Several memorials, which were completely lost, are reconstructed in three-dimensional graphics on this CD-ROM.
