Abstracts:

Humanitarian research deals mostly with text – even when it deals with images and sounds, the research outcome is a text. Text markup is a natural way to express both appearance and logical structures of texts. That''s why emergence of HTML seems being so natural. But even HTML usage now requires knowledge of adjacent technologies, e.g. CSS. Advent of XML, the markup language that separated the structure markup from the typographic markup totally, considered to be almost panacea by some researchers, but instead forced to learn a whole bunch of new technologies such as XLink, XPath, XSLT etc. and/or even JavaScript. Even HTML publications require metadata to be found on the Internet effectively.
The authors have developed a number of online courses in the mentioned technologies under support of Russian Foundation for Humanities, among the courses are "Internet Basics", "Information Search", "HTML Markup", "Web Design Basics", "XML Basics". Two more courses are under development: "JavaScript" and "Dublin Core". All the courses are targeted at researches in humanities.
